China Warns Citizens in Japan Amid Rising Hostility
An announcement released on Saturday by the Chinese Embassy in Japan stated that public safety conditions in certain Japanese regions have worsened. The advisory highlighted violent occurrences in prefectures such as Fukuoka, Shizuoka, and Aichi, as reported by a news agency.
The embassy noted that numerous Chinese visitors complained of being insulted verbally or attacked physically without justification, leading to injuries.
It further pointed to a vehicle assault on December 31 in Tokyo’s Shinjuku Ward, where two Chinese nationals sustained serious harm and required urgent medical care.
The embassy once more recommended that Chinese citizens refrain from traveling to Japan in the immediate future.
Japanese officials have not yet issued any response to the embassy’s latest warnings.
Relations between China and Japan have grown increasingly tense since November 7, when Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi declared that a Chinese strike on Taiwan could legally be considered a “survival-threatening situation,” which might permit Japan to invoke the right of collective self-defense.
Her statement provoked a strong reaction from Beijing, prompting China to caution against trips to Japan and to reinstate restrictions such as a ban on seafood imports, along with other punitive measures.
